Compounding is the art of combining two or more ingredients to make a specialized medication for a particular patient. Some patients are unable to take a regularly manufactured medication for different reasons. For example, unavailable strength, product is out of production, allergy to inert ingredient. This is a small example of the many reasons a compounded medication may be needed. Specially trained pharmacists and technicians put the compounds together.
